Shades of Summer Past

Morning Rituals

The morning sun rises over our house and blankets the forest behind with a shimmer of gleaming light.  The morning sun breaks through the canopy of dawn and the forest awakens.  Silence is broken by the birds as they respond in kind offering their heart-songs with devout eagerness.  My view from our living room windows is like having a front row seat in the best theater.

The morning calm soothes my soul along with the unease of everyday life stresses.  The quiet of the morning is intoxicating, natures purest form of meditation. Sipping my first hot cup of tea in the early hours as my world awakens has got to be one of my
most blissful moments.
A cup of tea may not solve everything, but it certainly soothes the soul...
❤ Our daily rituals are often overlooked ❤

❤ Feeling Blue

   Gotta Love Cobalt Blue

I have always had a fondness for Cobalt Blue Glassware

I love the way the sun shines through my collection
reflecting the light

It takes me back to my childhood when cobalt blue glass
appeared almost magical to me.

No Pantry! Watch me!

Anyone have a similar experience?   You tour a house to buy...fall in love with stand out features like...Cream coloured upgraded cabinets in the kitchen...granite everywhere... gorgeous hardwood throughout...vaulted ceilings...backyard deck the full length of the house overlooking forest behind...Awww...Love at first site...

...Wait!...No Pantry? What is a girl to do...

No Pantry! Just watch me!

Our laundry room off our kitchen has a closet. Hmmm?....  Do we really need another closet?

 Heck no!

Thanks to my talented hubby, we now have a pantry just off the kitchen in our laundry room.
I forget to take a picture of it as a closet...darn, but you get the idea...picture it empty with one closet rod and shelf.

I re-purposed this kitchen cabinet for our pantry...
it is a perfect fit.
My hubby built shelves to partner with the cabinet

I love it! We took the closet door off, to make it easy to enter.
There is a door on the laundry.  Having two made it crowded.
Doesn't take much to make me happy lol!
All is right with the world again Haha!

Put A Ring On It

New Bathroom sneak peek

I have always dreamed of having a Clawfoot tub.
And it just so happens, when our builder made a
huge mistake when what was suppose to be a soaker tub
turned out to be more like a more like a hot tub,
we offered to go purchase the tub ourselves.
Guess what was on sale?
A Victorian style floor model tub was being discontinued
and so now my dream  has come true.

Have a look at My Gorgeous Clawfoot Tub
I am still looking for all the finishing touches
for our bathroom, but I wanted to share how it looks so far.
We found this Victorian look vanity at the same store
Rona Lindsay Ontario
It was a small space to work with, bit this
corner shower works great
Also from Rona, Lindsay
Working with builders isn't always easy...
the tile with the wrong grout was completed before
I had a chance to tell them.
Found this pretty ceiling fixture at good old Canadian Tire!
I have my eye on another vintage looking fixture
for over the mirror...waiting for it to go on sale...
Made use of my own mirror and retro Parylite sconces
The storage cabinet was a after thought from
Canadian Tire...On sale of course...
My vintage serving dish makes a pretty mantel
for my perfume, mini claw-tub and tea-light holder,
which I use to hold my rings...
Not sure if the towel ladder is staying...
I'm looking for some cute pictures also...
Close-up of the vanity...A soft mint color...
looking for towels to match...
Retro Partylite sconce

 After

I really enjoy soaking in my gorgeous Victorian tub and yes,
I have put a ring on it lol!

I'm so happy to participate in this years

Where Bloggers Create 2014
If you are anything like me and are often curious, looking for inspiration, and may enjoy exploring some amazing studios, craft spaces, sewing rooms, then please join in on this wonderful studio tour of  Where Bloggers Create.  And as a bonus you get to meet some unique and interesting like-minded woman who often become friends. After all a friend may be waiting behind a strangers face.

I'm excited to be attending again this year. I have moved since last year, but I do have a small room carved out in our new basement with a big window to let natural light in. It's a smaller room then my last studio, but I have managed to make it work. Some of my things are still in boxes...I will find them eventually.
Serendipitously our new smaller home has a front room that I use for my office, just like my last home. Yippee! I hope that you will follow along with my new blog adventure, Petal & Lace Cottage.

Welcome To My Studio

Lots of natural light
Thought I would put my vintage lamp replica
in my room this time
Since we have no dining room in this house
I thought rather then to sell my china cabinet I would use it for
fabric and books etc.
My hubby made me this fantastic fabric rack
My vision board and 12X12 scrapbook frames where
I can display my next pages.
My farmhouse kitchen island works great as a
cutting table and for scrap-booking

My bookcase which will fill up when I find the rest of my stuff
Some vintage family keepsakes.  Yes I did use that iron when I was a little girl
You might be asking, what does the "P" stand for when my name is Helena...
My dad nick-named me Pidge and it has stuck after all these years.
My Mothers Lazy Susan houses some of my trinkets
My little photo printer for scrapbooking
The chandelier is from my old office...works great here...Oh and the Mary Mary Quite Contrary Doll is in memory of my sweet Mom by the same name. Only she was not contrary
Some previous creations
Embroidery sampler...I love to embroider

My Office

Our antique chandelier adds some bling to my room
A room of my own
My morning sanctuary, where I write and enjoy my morning tea

Enjoy The Party

Thank you all for visiting today
There are many studios to visit, so I best get started.
Another big thank you to Karen for inviting me to the party
and for inspiring me to get my room organized.
Maybe now I will find my remaining unopened boxes.

Memory Box Creations is my poetry blog where you can find my studio from our last home.
Last year my husband and I downsized to another home across town and I thought..A new blog? Why not! At Petal & Lace Cottage I will share my personal touches to try and bring cottage flair to our new  home on a dead end street surrounded by trees in Beautiful Kawartha Lakes. I invite you to come along as we attempt to change an ordinary house into a home.
